Your employees are your best asset, and when they’re happy, healthy, and engaged, they’re able to perform their best – which in turn, boosts your bottom line. So it’s no wonder that more and more companies are starting to offer wellness plans and programs as a benefit for their employees: they’re a win-win. Studies show that for every $1 spent in wellness plans, companies see returns of $3.27 in lower medical costs and $2.73 in reduced employee absenteeism costs.
Why include chiropractic care as a wellness benefit
For starters, pain management is one of the most common health concerns in America – and the most expensive. Chiropractic care is one of the most affordable preventable measures a person can take to avoid long-term pain management, expensive surgery, and prescription pain medications.
When your employees are in pain, they aren’t going to be focused on their work. Each year, pain-related employee absenteeism costs employers between $11.6 and $12.7 billion – and $49.9 billion in pain-related presenteeism, when employees are coming to work but are unproductive due to their pain.
Often, chiropractic care is covered under employer insurance plans, but there’s also a big benefits to actualy bringing a chiropractor in on-site for your employees, versus them having to go off-site:
- Employees use less PTO or working hours on care visits. Most chiropractic visits last 10-15 minutes, but when employees are going offsite for those, you have to factor in time for travel and the waiting room, extending those quick visits up to at least an hour, if not more. This is a benefit to both employer and employee.
- Employees experience both better health and morale. Part of keeping your employees engaged is letting them know they’re appreciated, which is a major benefit of wellness programs – it feels good as an employee to know your employer cares about your health. Chiropractic care improves pain, which leads to improved morale. Chiropractic doctors can also give advice on lifestyle changes they might make, such as diet, fitness, and stretches, which will help employees feel better and more energized.
- Chiropractic care can help reduce overall health costs. Chiropractic care can help prevent what may seem like small aches and pains from becoming larger, more expensive issues.
- All of your employees can benefit from chiropractic care, not just a select group. Unlike wellness program benefits that are only targeted at smokers or those who categorize as overweight, chiropractic care is an effective use of your healthcare and wellness dollars in that it can benefit the broader group.
How does on-site chiropractic care work?
For on-site chiropractic care, the employer and chiropractor work together to set a schedule and frequency for the doctor to visit the office. Employees will sign up to visit the doctor while he/she is on-site, and each first session will start with a consultation to evaluate the employee’s needs. From then on, a treatment plan will be decided on and each subsequent visit will include treatment – again, these sessions are generally quick, 10-15 minutes each.
There are some restrictions do to the size and space of an office versus the chiropractic office, so the most common treatments include massage and manual adjustments. Any specialty treatments will require the employee patient actually visit the chiropractic office.
A chiropractor can also give broader talks to the employee base on stretches and exercises they can do at their desk to improve posture and pain, nutrition, and other health and lifestyle advice.
